In addition to writing on the urgent political issues of the present moment, the Applied History Lab at the University of Georgia is dedicated to training future historians in the task of bringing our craft to the wide world of decision-making. Our faculty and graduate students aim to expand the scope of applied history through lesson plans that demonstrate the diversity of use cases in which historical inquiry can inform how we approach complex issues and problems. Below are sample lesson plans, which span multiple domains that benefit from strong consideration of change over time, continuity, and contingency. In war rooms, boardrooms, and dining rooms, life-changing decisions are being made every day. We invite educators to vary how they teach history to their students—in high school classrooms, lecture halls, or seminar rooms—to emphasize the fact that history is universally applicable and belongs outside the dusty pages of the monograph.
